General Purpose
The Camp Counselor collaborates with the camp director and fellow counselors to implement engaging program activities. Previous experience in working with children is essential.
Essential Job Functions
- Adhere to all departmental and state regulations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of program activities.
- Inspect the area for safety risks and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Document all incidents and accidents occurring within the area of responsibility.
- Provide First Aid as necessary.
- Arrive on-site 15 minutes prior to the start of the program for setup.
- Ensure the area is cleaned up at the end of the day.
- Engage in the evaluation process.
- Develop a water safety plan in collaboration with the program director.
- Serve as the program lifeguard during swimming and water activities, complying with all relevant regulations.
- Ability to actively promote diversity, equity, and cultural competency within job responsibilities.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion demonstrated through ongoing training and professional development.
- Experience working with children in both group and individual settings is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is necessary.
- Preferred coursework in education, child development, family studies, or recreation.
- Capability to supervise and organize groups of children for activities.
- Effective management of discipline issues with children, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to group activities.
- Familiarity with various recreational activities and group games.
- A collaborative spirit and team-oriented mindset.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding are required.
- Willingness to undergo a background check as part of the hiring process.
- Completion of required training prior to the commencement of the camp program.
