Position Overview

The role of the Counselor involves collaborating with the camp director and fellow counselors to implement various program activities. Prior experience in child supervision is essential.
Union Status: Non-Union
Pay Rate: $19.15 per hour
Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all departmental and state regulations.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of program activities.
  • Inspect the area for safety risks and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Document all incidents and accidents occurring within the scope of responsibility.
  • Provide First Aid as necessary.
  • Arrive on-site 15 minutes prior to the start of the program for setup.
  • Ensure the area is cleaned up at the end of the day.
  • Engage in the evaluation process.
  • Develop a water safety strategy in collaboration with the program director.
  • Serve as the lifeguard during swimming and water activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Qualifications
  • Ability to promote diversity, equity, and cultural competency within job responsibilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development in diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience working with children in both group and individual settings is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is necessary.
  • Preferred qualifications include coursework in education, child development, family studies, or recreation.
  • Skills in supervising and organizing children for activities.
  • Ability to effectively manage discipline issues with children and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Understanding of safety principles relevant to group activities.
  • Familiarity with various recreational activities and group games.
  • A cooperative spirit and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding are required.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check as mandated by state regulations.
  • Completion of necessary training prior to the commencement of the camp program.
