Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Camp Counselor/Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Burlington, VT. As a Camp Counselor/Lifeguard, you will be responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable experience for children participating in our day camp program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing program activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants.
  • Supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Enforce safety protocols and regulations, reporting any incidents or hazards to supervisors.
  • Administer first aid and CPR as required, maintaining current certifications.
  • Develop and implement water safety plans, adhering to State of Vermont licensing regulations.
  • Collaborate with program directors and staff to ensure seamless program execution.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized setting.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification and First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to pass a State of Vermont Background Check for Childcare Providers and be fingerprinted.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a cooperative attitude and team player mentality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College coursework in education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and practices, as well as recreation and leisure activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
