General Summary

The Cook's primary responsibilities are duties required to feed children and maintain a sanitary environment. This position is accountable for all aspects of food preparation and cleaning supply availability.

Location: Terrytown

Salary: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

  • The work schedule is from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Monday thru Friday, with all evenings and weekends off.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have at least a high-school diploma, 2-year culinary arts degree preferred.
  • Have at least two-years of food service experience, which must include preparation of items from raw ingredients.
  • Preferably has Servsafe or Food Handlers Certification.
  • Experience preparing items in bulk is also a must
  • Be able to pass a background check.
  • Reference checks from past employers must, in general, must be positive.

Job Description

  • The Cook is responsible for all food service activities.
  • The Cook is responsible for the safety and well-being of all students in all classrooms.
  • Allergies, substitutions, and other health/safety items related to food service are jointly managed by the cook and lead director
  • An in-depth knowledge of and use of sanitation regulations and best practices are essential.
  • The Cook uses a rotating menu when planning food preparation, food and supply ordering, and kitchen/storage area cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Knowledge of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements/regulations are helpful but not required.
