Job Overview

The Lead Early Childhood Educator operates under the guidance of the Center Director. Key responsibilities encompass arranging learning environments and resources to cater to the diverse needs of children enrolled, delivering activities across all domains that reflect best practices in Early Childhood Development. This role fosters an atmosphere where children can engage in activities, tackle challenges, investigate, experiment, inquire, and learn through hands-on experiences.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Expertise in Early Childhood Education and recognized best practices.
  • Proficient communication skills in English with children, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute both verbal and written instructions, as well as perform mathematical calculations.
  • Competence in utilizing modern office technology (computer, fax, scanner, copier).
  • Awareness of the unique needs of families and effective communication strategies to support them.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and internet navigation. Must also be able to act as a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Flexibility to assist in different roles and locations as required.

In the course of fulfilling the responsibilities of this position, the employee is frequently required to engage with children at their level, as well as stand, bend, walk, communicate, listen, use hands for various tasks, and occasionally navigate uneven surfaces or climb stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or an Associate's degree, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in Early Childhood Education. Demonstrated proficiency in both verbal and written communication is essential.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that classroom activities (including transitions) are developmentally appropriate and aligned with the Head Start Philosophy.
  • Facilitate classroom interactions that are suitable for the age group and consistent with the Head Start Philosophy.
  • Oversee playground interactions that adhere to developmental appropriateness and Head Start/Licensing Regulations.
  • Prepare and submit lesson plans that cater to individual, small, and large group needs, including IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals and objectives as necessary.
  • Foster a sense of community within the classroom through relationship-building and encouraging children to undertake routine tasks independently.
  • Implement the approved weekly lesson plan in the classroom on a daily basis.
  • Prepare materials and supplies in advance for educational activities.
  • Ensure that TSG (Teaching Strategies Gold) and DPRD (Desired Result Development Profile) accurately reflect each child's progress.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze data towards achieving Outcomes and School Readiness Goals three times a year in TSG (Teaching Strategies Gold) and with DRDP (Desired Results Developmental Profile) in accordance with the program calendar.
  • Understand and apply the research-based Frogstreet Curriculum for Three-Year-Olds and Pre-K (4-5).
  • Utilize screenings, ongoing assessments, and input from parents and staff to address the learning needs of each child.
