VHA Physician Total Rewards.The Chief of Staff provides oversight and leadership to the Chief Medicine, Chief Geriatrics & Extended Care Service, Chief Mental Health Service, Chief Surgical Service and Chief Community Care.
He/she is directly responsible for recruitment and retention of faculty and staff and initiating areas of programmatic development for those respective services.
He/she is responsible in assisting the Medical Center Director to establish and maintain high standards of excellent care in all areas.

Leadership:
Identify and assess trends that may apply
Evaluate existing and related health programs in order to improve those programs
Provide leadership within VHA and VA for promoting public health and population health programs, mission to protect and improve the health of Veterans
Clinical:
Inpatient Services
Outpatient Services
Ensure patients receive quality care in a timely and courteous manner
Ensures that all patients receive quality, preventive health care through screening, counseling and education
Ensures that when symptoms and/or signs occur, each patient is fully and appropriately assessed, treated for illness, and followed-up
Ensures that all medical staff (ancillary staff, pharmacy, nursing, mental health and medical/surgical providers) is knowledgeable and provides appropriate psychosocial care and counseling to patients
Ensures competence of medical staff and each of its members to provide care to the young, middle, older and geriatric patients served
Encourages the development of and adherence to clinical guidelines/pathways for patient populations. This is done with emphasis on VHA CPG guidelines, and also when relevant on published and approved guidelines such as CDC and other US task forces

Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off:
50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Contract Buy Out Program:
This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).
