Position Overview

This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments. Applicants must fulfill individual eligibility criteria in line with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Responsibilities

The VA Beckley Healthcare System is a premier healthcare provider for Veterans within the VA Capitol Health Care Network. As a forward-thinking care center in the Veterans Integrated Service Network 5 (VISN 5), we encompass medical centers and clinics across multiple states. VA provides a comprehensive total rewards package, including VHA Physician Total Rewards. The Chief of Staff oversees and leads various services, including Chief Medicine, Chief Geriatrics & Extended Care Service, Chief Mental Health Service, Chief Surgical Service, and Chief Community Care. Key responsibilities include:

Administrative Duties:
  • Program Development
  • Resource Management
  • Quality Assurance
  • Direct Supervision
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Identify and assess relevant trends
  • Evaluate and enhance existing health programs
  • Provide leadership in promoting public health and population health initiatives aimed at improving Veterans' health
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Inpatient and Outpatient Services
  • Ensure timely and courteous quality care for patients
  • Provide preventive health care through screening, counseling, and education
  • Conduct thorough assessments and follow-ups for patients with symptoms
  • Ensure all medical staff are knowledgeable and provide appropriate psychosocial care
  • Encourage adherence to clinical guidelines for patient populations

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Residency Training: Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in a patient care setting that is adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated.
