Position Overview

This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which is a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments. Candidates must fulfill specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment. The program's approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The VA Beckley Healthcare System stands as a premier healthcare provider for Veterans within the VA Capitol Health Care Network. As an innovative care center within the Veterans Integrated Service Network 5 (VISN 5), which encompasses medical facilities and clinics across several states, the VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.   • Identify and evaluate trends that may be applicable
  • Assess existing health programs to enhance their effectiveness
  • Provide leadership within VHA and VA to promote public health and population health initiatives aimed at safeguarding and improving Veterans' health
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Inpatient Services
  • Outpatient Services
  • Ensure timely and courteous quality care for patients
  • Guarantee that all patients receive comprehensive preventive healthcare through screening, counseling, and education
  • Ensure thorough assessment, treatment, and follow-up for patients exhibiting symptoms or signs of illness
  • Ensure that all medical staff are knowledgeable and provide appropriate psychosocial care and counseling to patients
  • Ensure the competence of medical staff to provide care across various age groups, including young, middle-aged, older, and geriatric patients
  • Encourage adherence to clinical guidelines/pathways for patient populations, emphasizing VHA CPG guidelines and relevant published guidelines from organizations such as the CDC

Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases

Contract Buy-Out Program: This position may qualify for the Physician/Provider Contract Buy-Out Program (CBOP), which allows VHA to buy out service contracts in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a minimum of four years. Requirements

Conditions of Employment

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure and Registration: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Residency Training: Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Candidates must be physically and mentally capable of performing the essential functions of the position efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in a patient care setting that is adequately lighted, temperature-controlled, and ventilated. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in certain situations.
