Overview

The Chief of Staff (COS) serves as a pivotal leader within the Veterans Health Administration, reporting directly to the Medical Center Director and being an integral part of the Executive Leadership Team. Key Responsibilities

The Chief of Staff is responsible for overseeing various medical services, including Chief Medicine, Chief Geriatrics & Extended Care Service, Chief Mental Health Service, Chief Surgical Service, and Chief Community Care. Key duties include:

Administrative Duties:
  • Development of healthcare programs
  • Management of resources
  • Quality assurance initiatives
  • Direct supervision of clinical staff
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Identifying and analyzing healthcare trends
  • Evaluating and enhancing existing health programs
  • Leading initiatives to promote public health and improve the health of veterans
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing inpatient and outpatient services
  • Ensuring timely and courteous patient care
  • Facilitating preventive health care through screenings and education
  • Ensuring comprehensive assessment and treatment for patients
  • Promoting adherence to clinical guidelines and pathways
