Oakland, California, United States Verify Energy Full time

About the Company:

Verify Energy was founded to help create the 100% carbon-free energy grid of the future. Our PowerFly clean energy IoT platform allows clean energy hardware manufacturers the ability to quickly add remote communications and controls capabilities to their products. We work with PV inverter companies, carbon capture companies, energy storage companies and more across the clean energy landscape. Our customers rely on our software and cloud platform to continuously monitor and manage their mission critical energy infrastructure and keep the clean energy flowing.

About the Position:

Verify Energy Site Reliability Engineers are responsible for building and running our mission-critical systems. Through the implementation of monitoring and automation, our SREs constantly ensure the health, reliability, scalability, and performance of Verify Energy's infrastructure (Google and Microsoft Clouds). The Site Reliability team works together with engineering teams, IT, and Customer Success to address unique business challenges through comprehensive solutions while taking into account system uptime, reliability, and maintainability. Members of the team are expected to promote the importance of resiliency patterns to other teams within Verify Energy, as well as contribute to a culture of continuous learning.

What you'll do:

As the founding member of the Site Reliability team, help establish operating and monitoring procedures for a web scale mission critical IoT solution.
Deploy, upgrade, operate/maintain, and scale our suite of mission critical products and services
Manage our underlying infrastructure as code and use modern observability tools to tell a complete story of application health
Monitor and maintain mission-critical production services to ensure maximum uptime
Engage in and improve the whole software development lifecycle of services -- from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement
Scale the reliability and velocity of our systems and processes through increased automation
Participate in an on-call rotation and culture of continuous improvement through blameless postmortems

What you'll need to succeed:

Solid experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering or System Administration
Expertise in at least one scripting language (e.g. Bash, Python)
Fundamental understanding of Linux operating system internals, TCP/IP networking, and storage subsystems
Strong experience scaling and securing services in the cloud (Microsoft Cloud, Google Cloud Platform) or cloud native environments
Experience using infrastructure-as-code principles to automate the creation of infrastructure resources (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation)
Understanding of engineering design limitations and ability to provide guidance to teams to scale their services to achieve desired performance within budget
Experience implementing and debugging cloud native and open source tools such as Kubernetes, MQTT brokers, Prometheus, FluentD or Istio
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse and distributed team

Required Experience:

2+ years - DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or system administration
3+ years - source code and version control tools such as Git or Subversion
1+ years - infrastructure as code (IaC) products for automatically managing fleets of servers
2+ years - Distributed system development or DevOps
3+ years - Script programming and automation
2+ years - Database administration, PostgreSQL or other relational database
1+ years - NoSQL database administration

Considerations:

We are a small startup with good funding and solid, paying customers. We don't have VC money, fancy perks or anything like that. We can't offer many benefits or a huge salary (for now), but we will offer equity for mission-aligned talent who want to be involved in the global energy transition. We have an elite team of high performing experts in our respective fields and we are having a great time building our platform and working with amazing customers doing everything from carbon capture to EV charging to battery management. If this sounds exciting to you we want to hear from you
