You will be responsible for conducting all necessary investigations and design services to create actionable design documents. Site visits will be required to develop designs for renovation, restoration, and/or construction of both modern and historic Coast Guard facilities, including waterfront structures, for approximately 6 to 10 projects annually, with budget estimates ranging from $100K to $1.5M.
This is a full-time, salaried position, typically requiring around 40 hours of work per week.
Essential Qualifications:

This encompasses planning, design, cost estimation, contracting support, and construction management of individual projects, requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address intricate technical and engineering challenges.
- Comprehensive design experience in civil/structural engineering, including the ability to prepare plans and details, draft specifications, and perform structural calculations (utilizing advanced computer-aided analytical tools) to meet design objectives. Designs and calculations must comply with nationally recognized building and seismic codes in accordance with Coast Guard guidelines, along with the capability to evaluate and manage the work of other designers to achieve design goals.
- Familiarity with engineering design principles for waterfront facilities, including piers, floating docks, boathouses, bulkheads, and wave barriers.
- Experience in preparing design documents is essential.

- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Prior experience supporting the US Coast Guard.

Additionally, providing technical guidance to contracting officers during negotiations.
- Conducting site investigations to collect essential data for new or renovation projects.
- Offering in-house civil and structural engineering expertise and reviews.
- Coordinating with site contacts and multi-disciplinary design team members; facilitating conceptual design meetings with in-house and site personnel; providing support services to architectural and engineering designers in Coast Guard-specific project documentation functions.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on submittals, requests for information, and work schedules submitted by construction contractors.
