A Brief Overview

Reporting to the Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) for Stanford Health Care (SHC) and the Stanford University School of Medicine (SoM), the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) is responsible for the vision, implementation, development, and maintenance of the data and analytics strategy and assets for SHC and the SoM. The CDAO serves on the Technology and Digital Solutions (TDS) senior leadership team with close collaboration with this group, as well as serves on numerous leadership committees through Stanford Medicine.

The CDAO is responsible for the selection, implementation, user support, maintenance and training for all data and analytics. In addition, the CDAO is responsible for the continuous advancement, development, and implementation of our data and analytics strategy and plan and monitoring progress against budgets and agreed upon service levels.

The CDAO must connect these responsibilities and deliverables to our integrated strategic plan (ISP) for Stanford Medicine and SHC Operating Plan. The CDAO is responsible for leading the TDS Analytics team (TDSA) including recruiting top analytics talent and creating an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative place for team members to achieve optimal performance and growth. The CDAO also oversees, guides, and coaches distributed analytics teams that reside in key business units.

What you will do

  • Serves as a thought leader in introducing concepts and generating the right types of clinical/operations/business/financial analytics that allow for optimization of operations across SHC and SOM.
  • Oversees relevant contract negotiations with vendors and key vendor relationship management.
  • Anticipates future industry trends 3-5 years out and ensures that the organization remains at the leading edge.
  • Acts as the organization's analytics lead across distributed analytics groups including having oversight for the distributed analytics leads with a dotted line into CDAO. This responsibility includes integrating these analytics leads in strategy planning and platform rollouts, center of excellence community development and other enterprise alignment related activities.
  • Engages consistently and proactively with various stakeholders to understand their data requirements and ensure they benefit from the insights derived from analytics.
  • Prioritizes the SHC and SoM business, financial, clinical and operations analytics needs objectively to deliver actionable reporting and analytic tools.
  • Coordinates, communicates, and presents recommendations on issues associated with data and analytics to executive leadership. Identifies new types/sources of business, financial, educational, research, clinical and operations data to drive innovation throughout SHC and SoM.
  • Works closely with enterprise architecture and data science teams to advance artificial intelligence capabilities across SHC and SoM.
  • Works closely with enterprise architecture and infrastructure teams to advance our cloud-based and on-premises data platforms.
  • Works closely with CIDO and senior leadership team to develop the SHC and SoM strategic analytics vision and communicates that vision to the SHC and SoM executive leadership.
  • Establishes and oversees a framework for data governance that reduces redundancy and facilitates quality controls and data stewardship.
  • Develops and presents a mechanism, basis and annual budget for data and analytics capital and operating investments; recommends, monitors and reports annually on the budget for analytics.
  • Provides on-site management for TDSA staff and serves as primary administrative contact for related personnel issues.
  • Develops and empowers a high-performing analytics team through continuous learning, feedback, and alignment with Stanford Medicine's vision and goals.
  • Identifies, develops and recommends specific analytical and data management applications for implementation throughout the organization; develops and maintains organization-wide project work plans for attaining agreed to corporate-wide objectives for analytics.
  • Directs the development and implementation of a continuing assessment/evaluation process to measure compliance, performance, and effectiveness of system/enterprise-wide client service delivery; recommends corrective action, as needed, to assure service delivery meets negotiated service level agreements with internal and external clients.
  • Works closely with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure that all relevant data is secure and abides by the cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory standards set forth by the organization.
  • Represents SHC and SoM's data and analytics program to external audiences and healthcare provider community through presentations, conferences, and publications serving as a national leader in data and analytics in healthcare, biomedical research, education and academic medical centers.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university required.
  • Master's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of progressively increasing responsibility on data engineering, data management and analytics experience.
  • Proven leadership and management experience of an analytics and or technology group.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge and ability to integrate information systems with specific organizational business needs and plans.
  • Knowledge of financial annual budget planning process with the ability to analyze and provide explanation of variances.
  • Knowledge and understanding of needs, goals, deliverables and interdependencies of other functional organizations.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop new and future programs and provide cost analyses.
  • Knowledge and understanding of supervisory/management methodologies and the ability to work through others and achieve goals.
  • Knowledge of new developments and future trends in the areas of information technology and Healthcare informatics.
  • Knowledge and the ability to align the needs and the goals of the department with information systems capabilities.
  • Knowledge of healthcare processes, common applications, major vendors, and regulatory bodies/standards.
  • Knowledge of the reporting/analytical capabilities of core platform systems, including Epic and Workday.
  • Ability to research and interpret relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships and build consensus.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $ $185.19 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
