Position Overview
Stanford is in search of an experienced privacy professional to take on the role of a senior privacy strategist within the University Privacy Office (UPO), focusing specifically on the School of Medicine (SoM).

This role will adapt based on the applicant's qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will thrive in an innovative academic setting, providing proactive guidance and support to SoM administration, faculty, and staff regarding privacy matters. Collaboration with UPO colleagues will be essential to implement the university's privacy program within the SoM and to oversee adherence to Stanford's Minimum Privacy Standards.

Key Responsibilities
This position serves as the primary contact for privacy-related issues aligned with SoM objectives, acting as a vital member of the university privacy team. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert advice and support to SoM leadership on privacy-related matters.
  • Anticipating and addressing privacy concerns, responding to inquiries, and preparing formal communications.
  • Developing and executing strategic plans for the SoM's privacy program, regularly assessing its effectiveness.
  • Conducting privacy audits and investigations, ensuring compliance with corrective actions.
  • Educating faculty, staff, and students to enhance awareness and proficiency regarding privacy issues.

Support and Collaboration
The senior privacy strategist will support SoM practices to safeguard personal and institutional information in accordance with university values and legal requirements. Staying informed about the evolving regulatory landscape is crucial.

Collaboration with the Privacy Office for Stanford Health Care and other stakeholders will be essential, leveraging the spirit of partnership across Stanford to foster trust and cooperation.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree and extensive experience in privacy, compliance, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success in a complex research-intensive environment.
  • Expertise in HIPAA regulations and familiarity with FERPA, GDPR, and other privacy laws.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic setting.
