General Summary of Position

The Support Service Specialist may work in any of the following departments: Central Patient Transport, Clinical Equipment Support, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Supply Chain, and/or Linen Distribution.

Performs a variety of tasks for the departments within support services including, but not limited to;

  • Transporting patients and items
  • Delivering linen, food, equipment and medical supplies
  • Receiving medical supplies and/or equipment
  • Patient room cleaning, trash and soiled linen pick-up
  • Assisting in maintaining all areas of the Food Service department in a sanitary condition including heavy cleaning, and washing dishes, pots, and pans.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly relevant job-related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.

Experience

  • 6 to 12 months experience in a healthcare setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Should be able to work independently
  • Requires the ability to read and write in English, and comprehend policies and procedures; knowledge of grammar, and arithmetic including fractions and decimals; and ability to use alphanumeric pager and telephone
  • May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e., typewriter, personal computer, data terminal, on-line printer, calculator, telephone, facsimile, copier, sterilizing equipment, blood pressure cuff, or tables); the preparation, comparison or checking of reports, records and related data; and basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings and knowledge of their application
