Summary

The role requires in-depth knowledge of professional standards and precedents in the area of specialty. Assignments are received as objectives, with goals set to achieve these objectives. Recommends and establishes policy changes. Develops or assists in creating department budgets and goals. Erroneous decisions or failure to meet goals can result in increased costs, additional personnel needs, and significant delays in overall schedules. Supervises directly or through subordinate supervisors, coordinating the activities of a section or department and being responsible for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees. Makes hiring and firing decisions, reviews employee performance, recommends compensation, provides coaching for improved performance, and disciplines as necessary. Gives final approval for salary and performance recommendations of subordinate managers/supervisors. Builds cross-functional relationships requiring persuasive skills, negotiation, and considerable tact to gain support. Interacts directly with subordinates and peer groups and interfaces with senior managers on issues related to the area of expertise. Maintains positive relationships with key customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders who significantly impact the organization’s success.

Description

  • Provides direct and indirect supervision to subordinate team leaders and professional employees performing diverse roles.
  • Establishes three to five year plans/objectives and develops policies for the function/unit.
  • Accountable for department results and activities or projects involving multi-functional teams.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and sets goals to achieve these objectives.
  • Establishes and recommends policy changes.
  • Develops or assists in the development of department budgets and goals.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs, personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.
  • Provides direct supervision to others, or indirect through subordinate supervisors, and coordinates the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees.
  • Makes hiring and firing decisions.
  • Reviews employee performance and recommends employee compensation; coaches for improved performance and disciplines as necessary.
  • Provides final approval for subordinate managers/supervisors' salary and performance recommendations.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of supply chain management, distribution methods, global transportation services, and inventory management.
  • Strong understanding of the global business environment and customers' business operations.
  • Solid grasp of IT concepts and integrated business applications.
  • Expertise in all areas of import/export, regulatory compliance, and logistics management.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Capability to effectively lead, manage, train, and motivate a diverse group of employees.


Experience

  • Seven to Ten years of relevant experience


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, Engineering or related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
