The role entails providing both direct and indirect oversight to team leaders and professional staff engaged in various functions. The position is accountable for departmental outcomes and oversees projects that involve cross-functional teams. It necessitates a profound understanding of professional standards and precedents in the relevant specialty.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing site revenue and inventory management processes, including forecasting, analysis, reporting, and action plans.
- Driving initiatives for continuous improvement to reduce inventory costs while ensuring effective management reporting.
- Overseeing site purchasing activities, ensuring customer commitments are met, negotiating with suppliers, and maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Managing warehouse operations and material handling across all business units, ensuring security and efficiency.
- Leading the import logistics team, which includes negotiating carrier contracts and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
- Building and maintaining relationships with external carriers, customs brokers, and third-party warehouses, focusing on quality and performance.
- Ensuring adherence to all customs laws and regulations.
- Collaborating on global customs and traffic issues, identifying cost-saving opportunities across sites.
- Managing shipping operations and ensuring compliance with export customs regulations.
- Overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of supply chain management systems and processes.
- Providing strategic guidance to business units to achieve inventory financial objectives.
- Conducting annual physical inventory assessments and managing surplus material sales.
- Overseeing multiple departments, including Material Master, Dock Operations, Traffic, Distribution, and Warehouse.
- Possibly managing Inside Sales, focusing on customer service and order management to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Leading employee training, performance evaluation, and development initiatives.
- Promoting continuous improvement within the supply chain management function through collaboration with other departments.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of supply chain management, distribution methods, and global transportation services.
- Strong understanding of the global business landscape and customer needs.
- Familiarity with IT concepts and integrated business applications.
- Expertise in import/export regulations and logistics management.
- Effective negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead, manage, and motivate a diverse workforce.
Work Environment
- Work is typically performed in a standard office setting.
- Extended periods of sitting and visual concentration on computer screens may be required.
- Repetitive manual tasks, such as data entry, are common.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
Experience and Education
- A minimum of seven to ten years of relevant experience is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, Engineering, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
