Overview

The role entails providing both direct and indirect oversight to team leaders and professional staff engaged in various functions. This includes formulating three to five-year strategic plans and establishing policies for the department. The position is accountable for departmental outcomes and oversees projects that involve cross-functional teams. It requires a comprehensive understanding of professional standards and practices within the specialty area. Assignments are received in the form of objectives, and the individual is responsible for setting goals to meet these objectives. Recommendations for policy changes are also part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and implementing revenue and inventory management processes, which encompass forecasting, analysis, reporting, and action planning.
  • Driving initiatives for continuous improvement to reduce inventory costs while ensuring accurate management reporting.
  • Overseeing site purchasing operations, ensuring commitments to customers are met, negotiating with suppliers, and adhering to quality and delivery standards.
  • Managing warehouse operations and material handling across all business units, ensuring security and efficiency in receiving, counting, and maintenance processes.
  • Leading the import logistics team, which includes negotiating carrier contracts and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with external carriers, customs brokers, and third-party warehouses, focusing on quality, cost negotiations, and performance metrics.
  • Ensuring adherence to all customs laws and regulations.
  • Collaborating on global customs and traffic issues, identifying and implementing cost-saving strategies across sites.
  • Managing case packing, shipping operations, and export processes to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of supply chain management systems and processes.
  • Providing guidance to business units to achieve financial targets related to inventory.
  • Conducting annual physical inventory assessments and managing surplus sales and scrap material disposition.
  • Overseeing multiple departments, including Material Master, Dock Operations, Traffic, Distribution, and Warehouse.
  • Possibly managing Inside Sales functions, focusing on customer service and order management to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for employee training, performance evaluation, development, motivation, and recognition.
  • Promoting continuous improvement within the supply chain management function through collaboration with other departments.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of supply chain management, distribution methodologies, and global transportation services.
  • Strong understanding of the global business landscape and customer needs.
  • Familiarity with IT concepts and integrated business applications.
  • Expertise in import/export regulations and logistics management.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and management skills to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.

Work Environment

  • The position is primarily based in a standard office environment.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and focused visual attention on computer screens or detailed data.
  • Frequent repetitive manual tasks, such as data entry, are expected.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires seven to ten years of relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
