Duties:

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Engages, establishes, and maintains cooperative working relationships with the host nation representatives to facilitate approval and support for DPAA's research, investigation, survey, forensic review, and recovery activities within each specific country.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with counterparts within the Department of Defense in the conduct of the US government's personnel accounting mission.
  • Orchestrates and coordinates visits by host nation officials to DPAA and U.S. delegations to host nations for orientation, bilateral discussions and negotiations, and information exchange and training.
  • Supports the development of policy and strategy related to issues involving Americans missing from our Nation's designated past conflicts.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment
  • Required to participate in the direct deposit program
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A Special Background Investigation (SBI) is required with favorable adjudication by a determining authority.
  • Incumbent may be required frequent short notice travel, including travel to overseas locations in second and third world countries.
  • Incumbent may be required to occasionally travel away from your normal duty station for official business on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government passport and be willing to travel internationally (either via military or by commercial aircraft). TDY may be to austere areas.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
  • Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your experience in:

  • Coordinating with stakeholders on international engagement plans;
  • Developing strategies for international and host nation engagements that are consistent with political, economic, traditional, or culture for each country; and,
  • Attending national and international meetings to ensure information related to personnel accounting activities is accurate, complete, and aligned with policies and strategies.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.-
Current or Former Political Appointees: Beginning January 1, 2010, agencies must seek prior approval from OPM before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code.
