This position provides mission critical strategic operations and implementation expertise to The Ohio State University (OSU), Global One Health initiative (GOHi). GOHi is an innovative, multidisciplinary initiative involving stakeholders from multiple colleges and academic support units, federal agencies, foundations and non-profit organizations. GOHi envisions building capable professionals and institutional systems to establish a healthy and enduring global community. Its vision is aligned with Ohio State's strategic priorities such as the Discovery Themes, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The GOHi Asst Director for Strategic Operations (ADSO) works closely with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders in a lean, high-volume, fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ADSO:

Works closely with the Global One Health Executive Director, as well as, the Executive Director of Business Services & Finance in the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA), GOHi affiliated entity in Ethiopia- (Ohio State Global One Health, LLC), OAA Manager of Sponsored Projects, Global Gateways, and other stakeholders to execute operations and project-related activities. This includes supervision of all project management staff. Serves as the lead for project budget development activities, in conjunction with the GOH, LLC team and in working with cross-functional teams within OAA, and other OSU offices; Monitors/maintains high level oversight of budget and strategic activities; Plays a key role working with GOHi staff members on implementation of targeted, monetizable strategic activities that provide a sound return on resources. Oversees reports to internal and external sponsors and stakeholders, collaboratively - plan strategies, establishes milestones/deadlines, and tracks deliverables. Works closely with the Executive Director who also serves as the President of the affiliated entity (Ohio State Global One Health, LLC) to implement activities in compliance with the U.S. law and partner country local law, as well as Ohio State compliance and integrity principles, purchasing and travel policies, sponsor expectations, and program goals; Must be capable of making independent decisions to prioritize scheduled programmatic commitments and work with others to ensure operational activities are implemented in a technical and fiduciary responsible manner. Facilitates key partner meetings, including but not limited to, quarterly convenings of the Board of Managers, Executive Committee and External Advisory Board, as well as weekly Business/Administration meetings between the regional office and headquarter teams.

Reporting lines

The position directly reports to the Executive Director of Global One Health initiative (GOHi) with additional dotted reporting line to the Office of Academic Affairs, Executive Director of Business Services & Finance. This will facilitate an efficient and transparent execution of operations and encourage participation of additional thought leaders.

Required qualifications and experience

Trained at master’s level in business administration, operational efficiency or related field ; International operations experience with the ability to leverage cross-functional partners; experience in risk assessment, fiscally responsible decision-making and high level of integrity; Strong strategic and analytic skills with budgeting expertise and experience; Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; outstanding organizational skills, outstanding communication skills including inter-cultural communication skills, ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with limited supervision; Competence in effectively prioritizing multiple activities with competing deadlines, high level of maturity, judgment, and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information, positive and professional demeanor; Background and experience in pre-award and post-award sponsored programs and grants with public and private, global and national organizations and foundations.

Desired qualifications

Complementary talent in business experience; experience managing projects in contractor or non-governmental organization (NGO) settings between U.S. and international partners, and successful work experience with federal agencies such as USAID, CDC, NIH, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and other; knowledge and understanding of the public health environment and a candidate with experience working in higher education settings is highly desired.
