Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in supporting registered nurses by providing essential care to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and verify identification details.
  • Prepare patients for assessments, examinations, and medical procedures.
  • Collect blood samples from patients of all ages using sterile techniques, ensuring proper labeling and processing of specimens.
  • Conduct EKG tests as required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of all necessary medical equipment.
  • Assist in transporting patients to various departments as needed.
  • Support patients during meal times and assist with feeding when necessary.
  • Monitor inventory levels in assigned areas and restock supplies as instructed.
  • Ensure patient rooms are ready for new admissions.
  • Provide direct personal care to patients, including hygiene assistance, bathing, and bed making.
  • Measure and record vital signs upon admission, documenting findings and alerting the RN of any significant changes.
  • Perform glucose testing and collect other specimens as directed.
  • Document daily patient weights and monitor intake and output.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients by responding promptly to call lights and communicating any changes in condition to the RN.
  • Recognize the diverse needs of the patient population and tailor care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, and communication preferences.
  • Engage with patients and their families at an appropriate level of understanding.

Interactions: Regular engagement with healthcare staff, patients, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of one year of experience as a Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications Required:

  • Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program that includes Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training in both theoretical and practical settings.
