Position: Patient Care Technician

Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in supporting registered nurses by providing essential care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and verify identification details.
- Prepare patients for assessments, examinations, and procedures.
- Collect blood samples from patients of all ages using sterile techniques, ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens.
- Conduct EKG tests as instructed.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of all necessary medical equipment.
- Assist in patient transportation to various departments as needed.
- Support patients during meal times and provide assistance as required.
- Monitor inventory levels in assigned areas and restock supplies as needed.
- Ensure patient rooms are ready for new admissions.
- Deliver direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
- Record vital signs upon admission under RN supervision and report findings accordingly.
- Perform glucose finger sticks and collect other samples as directed.
- Document daily patient weights and track intake and output.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients by responding promptly to call lights and communicating any changes in condition to the RN.
- Recognize the diverse needs of the patient population and tailor care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, and communication abilities.
- Engage with patients and caregivers at their level of understanding.
Interactions: Regular communication with medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of one year of experience as a Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
Certifications Required:
- Current BLS/CPR certification from a recognized provider.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program that includes Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training in both theoretical and practical settings.
