Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting registered nurses in delivering high-quality care to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and verify identification to ensure safety.
  • Prepare patients for evaluations, admissions, and medical procedures.
  • Collect blood samples from patients of all ages using sterile techniques, ensuring proper labeling and processing of specimens.
  • Conduct EKG tests as instructed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of medical equipment.
  • Assist in transporting patients to various departments as needed.
  • Support patients during meal times, providing assistance as required.
  • Monitor inventory levels in assigned areas and restock supplies as necessary.
  • Prepare patient rooms for incoming admissions.
  • Deliver personal hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Record vital signs upon admission under the supervision of the registered nurse and report findings accordingly.
  • Perform glucose testing and collect other samples as directed.
  • Document daily patient weights and track intake and output.
  • Ensure a safe environment by promptly responding to call lights and communicating any changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Recognize and address the unique needs of diverse patient populations, tailoring care to meet those needs.
  • Engage with patients and their families at an appropriate level of understanding.

Communication: Regular interaction with healthcare personnel, patients, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of one year of experience as a Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

Certifications:

  • Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program that includes Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training in both theoretical and practical settings.
