Position Overview

As a vital member of the Minneapolis Animal Care & Control team, you will provide essential veterinary services for animals under our care. Your expertise will ensure the health and well-being of shelter animals while contributing to community outreach initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose health issues, and administer both routine and emergency treatments to shelter animals, including vaccinations and medication prescriptions.

• Perform necessary surgical procedures, including sterilizations, to promote animal welfare.

• Adhere to established protocols for the management of controlled substances, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

• Prepare specimens for various diagnostic tests, including rabies and necropsies.

• Assist in training shelter staff on animal health and welfare practices.

• Maintain the overall health of the facility housing live-in animals.

• Engage in community outreach activities, such as vaccination clinics, to promote public awareness and responsible pet ownership.

• Communicate effectively with the public regarding the treatment and care of animals.

• Prepare detailed reports for investigations related to animal cruelty and provide expert testimony when required.

• Carry out euthanasia procedures as determined by shelter management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

• A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a licensed veterinarian.

Licenses/Certifications:
• Valid Veterinarian License in Minnesota.
• Eligibility for DEA Registration.
• Valid Driver's License.

A criminal background check may be required for this position.
