We are currently seeking a qualified and licensed Land Surveyor (LS) for the role of Managing Surveyor based in our San Mateo office.

Position Summary

We are in search of a California Registered Land Surveyor with at least 12 years of experience. The Managing Surveyor role is designed for an experienced field and office Surveyor who is prepared to oversee projects alongside both field and office personnel. This position allows for a potential hybrid work schedule, subject to management approval.

The ideal candidate is eager to step into a leadership position to oversee the survey department. They should be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, possess strong technical skills, be team-oriented, personable, and have a genuine desire to contribute positively to the organization. A well-organized and adaptable individual with exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, along with experience in various surveying aspects, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clear, concise, and grammatically correct oral and written communications.
  • Exhibit excellent surveying mathematics skills, including coordinate geometry and trigonometry.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Maintain a keen attention to detail and implement thorough error-checking practices.
  • Uphold a professional demeanor and appearance.

Specific Duties

Project Management:

  • Prepare proposals and estimate work, review contract language, and draft subconsultant agreements.
  • Oversee the preparation of Tentative and Final Maps, ALTA Survey Plats, Records of Survey, Corner Records, Legal Descriptions, Topographic and boundary surveys, and various other exhibits in AutoCAD Civil 3D based on field data, record maps, and deeds.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance throughout projects.
  • Manage office staff and field crews effectively.
  • Maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Review billing processes.

Support the Management Team with:

  • Business development in both public and private sectors, including marketing and securing work while meeting sales targets.
  • Client relationship management.
  • Ensuring profitability.
  • Accounts receivable and billing oversight.
  • Risk management strategies.
  • Employee mentoring, support, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Departmental leadership initiatives.
  • Assisting with hiring, retention, and performance enhancement.
  • Handling various administrative tasks, including timesheet reviews and adherence to company standards and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience in surveying and project management.
  • Possession of a California Land Surveyor License.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service abilities, including professional and knowledgeable interactions with clients.
