Job Summary

The County Surveyor is a critical leadership position within the Land Development Division of the Department of Public Works. As a seasoned professional, you will oversee the Land Surveying Section, managing a team of over 15 staff members and ensuring the successful execution of various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the work of the Land Surveying Section, ensuring timely completion of projects and adherence to budgetary requirements.
  • Develop and implement annual budget plans, monitoring and tracking expenses for assigned programs, and providing budget briefings to the Director.
  • Provide survey support services for Capital Improvement Projects and other departmental land and boundary surveys, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee the production and online management of maps and other survey records for public use, maintaining high standards of quality and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with Planning & Development Services to review Subdivision Map Act Reviews, ensuring compliance with regulations and providing expert guidance.
  • Review and verify Records of Survey, Corner Records, Certificates of Correction, and Subdivision Map Exclusions, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to members of the public and internal customers, acting as the Ex-Officio County Recorder and maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the vertical and horizontal control network, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Administer the Survey Monument Preservation program, managing funds and resources effectively.
  • Act as an expert witness on behalf of the County, providing authoritative testimony and guidance.
Requirements
  • Five years of experience in land surveying, with at least two years of management or supervision experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency.
  • Current State of California licensure as a Land Surveyor or a Civil Engineer license authorized to practice land surveying.
