Position Overview

The Department of Molecular Biology is looking for a dedicated individual to take on the role of Grants Manager for a significant long-term funding initiative. This part-time, fully remote position will focus on managing a 7-Year Grant, with an initial term of 2 years, subject to annual renewal based on continued funding availability.

The selected candidate will serve as the primary grants manager for the New Jersey Alliance for Clinical and Translational Science (NJ ACTS) award. This award, funded by NIH through subawards, supports various training opportunities aimed at enhancing collaboration and translational research among multiple academic institutions.

Collaboration is key in this role, as the Grants Manager will work closely with personnel from various departments, including Rutgers University, and will liaise with the Principal Investigator, the Manager of Research and Administration, and other academic centers.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Award Duties:

  • Prepare proposals and manage internal submissions for NJACTS applications in coordination with the Principal Investigator and relevant departments.
  • Develop budgets, justifications, and data tables, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines.
  • Coordinate funding opportunities, including reviewing Requests for Proposals for compliance and assisting with internal applicant submissions.
  • Initiate and set up annual awards for various funding mechanisms.

Post-Award Duties:

  • Maintain communication with funding partners and coordinate with PIs and administrative departments.
  • Oversee annual progress report elements, ensuring compliance with NIH requirements.
  • Monitor financial expenditures across departments to ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Facilitate financial reporting and manage closeout requirements for awards.
  • Ensure proper filing of all grant documentation for record retention.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stay informed about University and sponsor policies to ensure compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in grants management within a university context. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential, along with a solid understanding of accounting principles.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining financial integrity and confidentiality. Familiarity with university policies and financial systems is preferred, particularly experience with grant applications in a biomedical or biological context.

This position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements.
