ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Project Controls Specialist I plays a vital role in supporting project managers by overseeing project schedules and costs, enabling informed decision-making for future project success. This position involves developing and maintaining project performance baselines, preparing cost estimates, and conducting thorough cost analyses to assess project health. Additionally, the specialist will identify potential impacts and assist in formulating recovery plans as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish comprehensive cost and schedule performance baselines, ensuring clarity in scope, assumptions, deliverables, and resource allocation.
  • Assist project managers in determining activity sequences and durations, identifying milestones to support project timelines.
  • Implement Earned Value Management System (EVMS) standards and controls, ensuring accurate reporting aligned with project planning strategies.
  • Monitor project schedules, identifying critical activities and updating relevant functions as needed.
  • Prepare detailed progress and performance reports for assigned projects, maintaining accurate cost and schedule data throughout project execution.
  • Support project managers in procurement activities, including accruals and invoicing.
  • Conduct forward-looking analyses to develop accurate estimates for project completion costs.
  • Identify cost trends and ensure timely completion of work according to schedule.
  • Facilitate effective communication and reporting to define project status and implement corrective actions when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in management, finance, or a related field.

Experience: 0-2 years of project control experience in engineering, environmental, or construction projects, including cost estimation and project planning.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in project management software and EVMS processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite and ability to obtain security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with EcoSys software.
  • Background in finance is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily office-based, with a focus on sedentary tasks, although some mobility may be required. The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise levels.
