Job Overview: The Cybersecurity Engineer II plays a crucial role in a comprehensive information security initiative aimed at safeguarding the University's digital assets from unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, or exposure. This role involves selecting, implementing, managing, and operating various moderate-complexity security infrastructure components. Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining security tools and systems, as well as assisting in the triage of alerts, tickets, and incidents as necessary. The engineer will also provide guidance to Security Analysts in resolving alerts and will conduct research to defend against emerging tools, attack techniques, and threat actors. Continuous training is essential to enhance security knowledge and skills. Participation in projects to evaluate information security risks and ensure adherence to University security policies, including compliance with industry and governmental regulations, is also required. Additionally, the engineer will offer mentorship and training to junior Information Security personnel.

Additional Department Overview: This role includes oversight of SIEM management and maintenance, management of EDR platforms, multifactor authentication systems, endpoint security, and security awareness initiatives.

Required Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree; OR a Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of IT security engineering experience; OR an Associate's degree with four (4) years of IT experience, including two (2) years in IT security engineering; OR a High school diploma or GED with six (6) years of IT experience, including two (2) years in IT security engineering.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other relevant information security certification is necessary. Proficiency in advanced programming, networking, systems, or security technology skills, as well as knowledge of project management methodologies, is preferred. Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain security certifications upon employment. If the candidate does not currently hold a CISSP certification, they must successfully pass the CISSP exam within six months of employment.

Background Investigation Statement: Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation. Information obtained from social media and other internet sources will also be considered. A prior conviction revealed during the background investigation does not automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. Candidates with prior convictions or negative behavioral indicators will undergo an individualized review before a hiring decision is made.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment or volunteer status without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, age, genetic or family medical history information, disability, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected basis.
