Job Summary: The Engineering Researcher II oversees engineering research projects and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day activity supporting project. Makes significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Assists in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.


Additional Department Summary: The Center for Complex Hydrosystems Research (CCHR) conducts cutting-edge research to address complex water resource challenges. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, CCHR aims to develop innovative solutions for sustainable water management and environmental conservation.

The Center is looking for a candidate with experience in handling and analysis of large datasets across spatial and temporal scales. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Moradkhani, CCHR director, and researchers across a range of disciplines to collect, analyze, visualize water, weather, climate, environmental, social and other types of data to solve hydrosystems issues and disseminate the results as directed.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and some engineering or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master's degree or higher).


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated record of publications in high-impact academic journals. Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and Keras. Competence in developing and deploying software using CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Knowledge of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React). Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with hydrology or environmental science research. Experience in managing AI/ML projects within research institutions or academic environments. Knowledge of web-based visualization tools such as Tableau. Experience with writing research proposals. Experience in developing scientific data management tools/processes to manage large volumes of data originating from remote sensors or other continuous data sources. Experience developing and deploying software in commercial cloud environments (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services). Willing to learn new tools and technology. Proficiency in AI and machine learning techniques, particularly in natural language processing and deep learning. Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and optimizing AI/ML tasks for efficient execution. Experience in developing and implementing Generative AI and large language models (LLMs). Experience in data science and analytics, including social media analytics.
