Job Overview: The Information Security Engineer II plays a crucial role in a comprehensive cybersecurity initiative aimed at safeguarding the University’s digital assets from unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, or exposure. This role involves the selection, implementation, management, and operation of various moderately complex security infrastructure components. Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining security tools and systems, supporting the triage of alerts, tickets, and incidents as necessary, and guiding Security Analysts in resolving alerts. The engineer will also research emerging tools, attack strategies, and threat actors while participating in projects to evaluate information security risks and ensure adherence to University security policies, as well as industry and governmental compliance standards. Additionally, this position provides mentorship and training to junior Information Security personnel.

Additional Department Overview: This role oversees the management and maintenance of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) platforms, multifactor authentication systems, endpoint security measures, and security awareness initiatives.

Required Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree; OR a Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience in IT security engineering; OR an Associate’s degree with four (4) years of IT experience, including two (2) years in IT security engineering; OR a High school diploma or GED with six (6) years of IT experience, including two (2) years in IT security engineering.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Possession of Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification or another relevant information security certification is required. Proficiency in advanced programming, networking, systems, or security technologies, as well as knowledge of project management methodologies, is essential. Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain security certifications upon employment. If the candidate does not currently hold a CISSP certification, they must successfully pass the CISSP exam within six months of employment.
