Position Overview:

In alignment with the school's mission, paraprofessional class proctors are tasked with overseeing students to ensure they attain the necessary knowledge and skills for academic success, as outlined by curricular objectives and school-wide goals. These professionals provide instructional support for students engaging in independent work or collaborating with a virtual instructor. They work closely with individuals or small groups, offering supervision and tailored instructional, emotional, and behavioral support to maintain a conducive learning environment.


Paraprofessional class proctors are expected to embody the mission and guiding principles of the school, assist students in adhering to the Student Code of Conduct, and cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders to promote academic and personal growth.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students engaged in independent or virtual learning: Facilitate student autonomy and engagement through synchronous instruction or independent assignments.
  • Assist with technology navigation, including troubleshooting device issues and learning platforms.
  • Support the virtual instructor by maintaining an engaging and safe classroom atmosphere through effective management strategies.
  • Monitor assigned students in the classroom and maintain accurate attendance records, communicating progress or concerns to relevant staff.
  • Assist in the progression of independent learning projects or virtual programs.

Promote engagement and positive interactions for diverse learners:

  • Help maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment for all students.
  • Implement accommodations for diverse learners under the guidance of the case manager.
  • Execute behavioral plans developed by the IEP team for students with specific needs, reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Model positive behaviors such as effective communication and conflict resolution to provide educational and life skills training.
  • Address disciplinary issues proactively and seek administrative support for ongoing concerns.
  • Collect and report behavioral data as necessary.

Commit to collaboration and professional development:

  • Engage constructively in departmental, school, network, and parent meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative paraprofessional strategies for diverse learners.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing student performance and experiences.
  • Attend IEP meetings as required.

Fulfill professional responsibilities:

  • Arrive punctually for assignments and take initiative in providing necessary support.
  • Participate in professional learning and collaboration days to enhance skills and engage in feedback.
  • Maintain communication with staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Complete other duties as assigned in accordance with collective agreements.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • Current Paraprofessional License or equivalent (Required)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (Strongly Preferred)

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising students in educational settings (Strongly Preferred)
  • Experience in urban educational environments (Strongly Preferred)
  • Expertise in proactive behavior management strategies (Required)
  • Experience with students with diverse needs (Strongly Preferred)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (Required)
  • Familiarity with educational technology (Strongly Preferred)
  • Understanding of human development principles related to children and adolescents (Required)
  • Flexibility and creativity in problem-solving (Required)
  • Commitment to advocating for students with various challenges (Required)
  • Positive attitude and approach (Required)
