High School Paraprofessional - Class Proctor Overview

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Principal/Assistant Principal

Role Summary:

In alignment with the educational mission, paraprofessional class proctors are tasked with overseeing students to ensure they attain the necessary knowledge and skills for academic success, as outlined by the curriculum and instructional goals. These professionals provide instructional support to students engaged in independent work or virtual learning environments. They work with individuals or small groups, offering supervision and assistance in instruction, assessment, emotional well-being, and behavioral management to foster a positive and structured classroom atmosphere.


Paraprofessional class proctors are expected to embody the mission and guiding principles of the organization, uphold the Student Code of Conduct, and cultivate constructive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders to promote both academic and personal success.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students engaged in independent or virtual learning: Facilitate student autonomy and engagement through synchronous instruction or independent tasks.
  • Assist with technology navigation, including troubleshooting devices and learning platforms.
  • Support the virtual educator in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment through effective classroom management.
  • Monitor assigned students within the classroom.
  • Document student attendance and communicate progress or concerns to the relevant school personnel.
  • Assist students with their independent learning projects or virtual programs.

Promote engagement and positive interactions for diverse learners:

  • Foster a safe and orderly classroom environment for all students.
  • Implement accommodations for diverse learners under the guidance of the case manager.
  • Execute behavioral plans developed by the IEP team for students with specific needs.
  • Model positive behaviors such as communication and conflict resolution to provide educational and life skills training.
  • Intervene in disciplinary issues and collaborate with administrative staff for chronic concerns.
  • Collect and report behavioral data as necessary.

Commit to collaboration and innovative practices:

  • Engage actively in departmental, school, and network meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of new techniques for supporting diverse learners.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing student performance and experience.
  • Attend IEP meetings as required.

Fulfill professional responsibilities:

  • Arrive punctually for assignments.
  • Proactively provide necessary support.
  • Participate in professional development and collaboration opportunities.
  • Respond to communications in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and protocols.
  • Build respectful relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • Current Paraprofessional License (Required)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (Strongly Preferred)
