Position Overview:

Guided by the school’s mission, educators will ensure that every student attains the knowledge and skills necessary for academic advancement and success, as outlined by curricular and instructional objectives and overarching institutional goals. Educators are tasked with embodying the mission and guiding principles of the school, adhering to the Student Code of Conduct, and fostering positive and collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders with transparency and accountability to promote both academic and personal success.

Instructors will deliver the relevant content and skills by utilizing the curriculum materials adopted by the institution, alongside suitable supplemental and self-created resources; develop lesson plans that cater to the diverse learning styles and specific needs of students; create an engaging learning environment that fosters positive social interactions, active participation, and self-motivation; and actively engage with colleagues in school improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and collaborative student support meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement evidence-based curriculum and instructional strategies:

  • Facilitate a challenging, research-informed curriculum aimed at enhancing student academic progress and achievement, aligned with school and network initiatives.
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that encourage active learning.
  • Establish clear and positive learning standards and expectations for all students to evaluate academic progress.
  • Develop lesson plans and activities in accordance with established protocols.
  • Utilize relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Monitor individual student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Employ a variety of educational materials and resources in instructional activities.
Assess student performance regularly to benchmark progress:
  • Ensure every student’s academic success through formative assessments that inform learning plans and summative assessments that measure achievement.
  • Develop assessments that align with established protocols.
  • Provide timely, specific feedback on student work to advance learning.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development.
  • Update necessary records in compliance with laws, network policies, and school protocols.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development.
  • Incorporate student choice into assessment structures.
Foster positive, productive relationships with students, staff, parents, and stakeholders:
  • Demonstrate preparedness and skill in engaging with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Guide and supervise students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Manage classroom behavior by establishing and enforcing expectations and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s expectations and disciplinary models.
  • Exhibit respect and consideration for students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Build positive relationships and address the social and emotional needs of students using research-based methods.
  • Encourage parental and community involvement; provide information to parents as needed.
  • Initiate appropriate discussions with parents, guardians, and administrators as per school procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents or guardians regarding students’ academic progress, attendance, and conduct.

  • Engage positively in department, school, network, and parent meetings.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of innovative teaching techniques and assessment approaches.

  • Collaborate with faculty and administration in program instruction development and implementation.
  • Actively engage in the instructional coaching process and apply feedback constructively.
Fulfill professional obligations as defined by the school and network:
  • Engage in structured lesson planning that offers differentiated options for various skill levels based on identified standards and curriculum.
  • Produce and share lesson plans following established procedures.
  • Maintain an accurate gradebook as per school protocols.
  • Implement grading protocols established by the school.
  • Participate in professional learning and collaboration days to enhance skills and foster feedback and coaching opportunities.
  • Prepare necessary reports on students and activities.
  • Communicate essential information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Prepare the classroom for instructional activities.
  • Assign and evaluate class work, projects, and assessments according to school protocols.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  • Be available for scheduled office hours.
  • Respond to communications within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Attend school events to better understand student interests and personalities outside the classroom.
  • Adhere to school and network policies and protocols.
  • Build respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant content area (Required).
  • Endorsements in Mathematics or an Advanced Degree in Mathematics (One is required).
  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educators License (PEL or 9-12 Required) or current, comparable out-of-state licensure.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant content area (Preferred).
  • Endorsement in ESL (Strongly Preferred).
  • Bilingual capabilities in Spanish/English, Arabic/English, or Urdu/English (Preferred).
Experience:
  • Experience in planning and teaching at the high school level (Required).
  • Experience in an urban high school setting (Strongly Preferred).
  • Experience teaching Algebra I/II and Geometry (Strongly Preferred).
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements and contemporary teaching practices.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Capacity to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Flexibility in instructional approaches, assessment, and relationship building.
  • Understanding of developmental principles as applied to children and adolescents.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Professional judgment and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Technical proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and presentation tools.
