Reporting Structure: Reports to Principal/Assistant Principal

Position Summary:

Aligned with the educational mission, the paraprofessional class proctor will oversee student activities and ensure that all learners attain the necessary knowledge and skills for academic success, as outlined by curriculum standards and school objectives. These professionals provide instructional support and assistance to students engaged in independent or virtual learning. They work closely with individuals or small groups, offering supervision and tailored support in instructional, assessment, emotional, and behavioral aspects to maintain a conducive learning environment.


Paraprofessional class proctors are expected to embody the mission and core values of the institution, helping students adhere to the Student Code of Conduct while fostering positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders in the Civitas Education community, ensuring accountability and transparency that promotes student achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during independent or virtual learning: Facilitate student engagement and independence in learning through synchronous instruction or independent tasks.
  • Assist with technology: Help students navigate and troubleshoot devices, learning platforms, and tools.
  • Maintain classroom order: Support the virtual instructor in creating a positive and safe learning environment using effective management strategies.
  • Monitor student attendance: Keep accurate records and communicate progress or concerns to relevant staff.
  • Support independent learning: Aid students in their projects and virtual learning programs.

Promote Engagement and Interaction:

  • Foster a safe classroom environment for all students.
  • Implement accommodations for diverse learners under the guidance of the case manager.
  • Execute behavioral plans for students with special needs as directed by the IEP team.
  • Model positive behaviors for students, including communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Address disciplinary issues and collaborate with administrative staff as needed.
  • Collect and report behavioral data as required.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative paraprofessional strategies for diverse learners.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing student performance and experience.
  • Attend IEP meetings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • Illinois State Board of Education Paraprofessional License or equivalent (Required)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (Strongly Preferred)
