Reports To: Principal/Instructional Coach

Position Overview:

Guided by the mission of the institution, educators will ensure that every student acquires the essential knowledge and competencies necessary for academic advancement and success, as outlined by curricular and instructional objectives and overarching institutional goals. Educators are expected to embody the mission and guiding principles of the institution, adhere to the standards of the Student Code of Conduct, and foster constructive and collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability to promote both academic and personal success for students.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement evidence-based curriculum and instructional strategies:
  • Facilitate a rigorous, evidence-based curriculum aimed at enhancing student academic progress and success, in alignment with institutional and network initiatives.
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are standards-aligned and promote active learning.
  • Establish clear and positive learning standards and expectations for all students to evaluate academic progress.
  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans and activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Utilize relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Encourage and monitor individual student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Clearly communicate objectives for all learning activities.
  • Employ a variety of educational materials and resources in instructional activities.
Evaluate student performance regularly to benchmark progress:
  • Ensure the academic success of every student by employing formative assessments to adapt learning plans and summative assessments to measure achievement.
  • Develop assessments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide timely, specific feedback on student work to advance learning.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws and institutional policies.
  • Observe and assess student performance and development.
  • Incorporate student choice into assessment design.
Foster positive, productive relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders:
  • Demonstrate preparedness and skill in engaging with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Guide and supervise students in the use of educational materials and equipment.
  • Manage classroom behavior by establishing and enforcing expectations and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with institutional expectations and disciplinary models.
  • Exhibit respect and consideration for students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Build positive relationships and address the social and emotional needs of students using research-based methods.
  • Encourage parental and community involvement; provide information to parents as needed.
  • Initiate appropriate conferences with parents and guardians as per institutional procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
Commit to collaboration, innovation, and flexible professional practices:
  • Engage positively in departmental, institutional, network, and parent meetings.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of innovative teaching techniques and assessment approaches.
  • Participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at enhancing student performance, experience, attendance, and conduct.
  • Involve students in curricular planning and assessment development.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration in the development and implementation of instructional programs.
  • Actively engage in the instructional coaching process and accept feedback for improvement.
Fulfill professional obligations as defined by the institution:
  • Engage in structured lesson planning that offers differentiated options for various skill levels, based on identified standards and curriculum.
  • Produce and share lesson plans in accordance with institutional procedures.
  • Maintain an accurate gradebook as per institutional guidelines.
  • Implement grading protocols established by the institution.
  • Participate in professional learning and collaboration days to enhance skills and engage in feedback processes.
  • Prepare required reports on student progress and activities.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Prepare the classroom for instructional activities.
  • Assign and evaluate class work, projects, and assessments according to institutional protocols.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Respond to communications within a timely manner.
  • Attend institutional events to better understand student interests and personalities.
  • Adhere to institutional policies and protocols.
  • Build respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the framework of the collective bargaining agreement.
Support and promote the mission and vision of the institution:
  • Demonstrate preparedness and skill in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Contribute to the creation of inclusive, identity-affirming environments for students.
  • Exhibit cultural competence in professional practice and responsibilities.
  • Implement principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in interactions with the school community.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant content area (Required).
  • Master's Degree in a relevant content area (Preferred).
  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educators License (PEL Required) or comparable out-of-state licensure.
  • Endorsements in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) (Strongly Preferred).
  • Endorsement in ESL (A Plus).
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English, Arabic/English, or Urdu/English (Preferred).
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Experience in planning and teaching at the high school level (Required).
  • Experience in an urban high school setting (Strongly Preferred).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements and contemporary teaching practices.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Capacity to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Flexibility in instructional approaches and relationship building.
  • Understanding of human development principles as applied to children and adolescents.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient technical skills, including familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
