Reporting Structure: Reports to Principal/Assistant Principal

Role Summary:

Guided by the institution's mission, paraprofessional class proctors are tasked with overseeing students to ensure they attain the necessary knowledge and skills for academic success, aligned with curricular goals and institutional objectives. These professionals provide instructional support for students engaged in independent work or virtual learning environments. They interact with students individually or in small groups, offering supervision and tailored instructional, emotional, and behavioral support to maintain a constructive and organized classroom atmosphere.


Paraprofessional class proctors are expected to embody the school's mission and principles, assisting students in adhering to the Student Code of Conduct, while fostering positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability in promoting student achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • In-Class Student Supervision: Oversee students engaged in independent or virtual learning.
  • Encourage student autonomy and participation in learning through synchronous instruction or independent tasks.
  • Assist students with technology usage, including troubleshooting devices and learning platforms.
  • Support the virtual instructor in maintaining an engaging and safe classroom environment through effective management strategies.
  • Monitor assigned students in the classroom and maintain accurate attendance records, regularly communicating student progress to relevant staff.
  • Facilitate student progress on independent projects or virtual learning programs.

Promoting Engagement and Support:

  • Foster a safe and orderly classroom environment for all learners.
  • Implement accommodations for diverse learners under the guidance of the case manager.
  • Execute behavioral plans developed by the IEP team for students with special needs, reinforcing learning concepts as directed.
  • Model positive behaviors and interpersonal skills for students, providing essential educational and life skills training.
  • Address disciplinary issues proactively and collaborate with the administrative team on persistent conduct challenges.
  • Collect and report behavioral data as necessary.

  • Engage actively in departmental, school, and network meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative paraprofessional techniques for diverse learners.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing student performance and experience.
  • Attend IEP meetings as required.

  • Punctually fulfill assignments and responsibilities.
  • Proactively provide necessary support to students.
  • Participate in professional development and collaboration days to enhance skills and engage in constructive feedback.
  • Maintain open communication with staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to collective agreements.
