CASA - The Voice of Clark County's Children


Position Summary: The CASA Staff Advocate plays a crucial role in advocating for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. This position is distinct from that of a CASA volunteer, which remains the primary model for providing advocacy. In situations where a volunteer cannot be appointed, the Staff Advocate steps in to fulfill this essential role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that children receive effective advocacy and support for early permanency planning.
  • Work part-time (20 hours per week) at a rate of $16.50 per hour, adhering to a professional dress code.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a social service-related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; candidates must be at least 21 years old.
  • Proficient communication skills to engage with children, families, DCS staff, educational personnel, and service providers.
  • Understanding of family dynamics and challenges related to child abuse and neglect is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Dedication to the mission and objectives of CASA - The Voice of Clark County.

Accountability: The Staff Advocate is appointed by the Program Director with the approval of the Family Court Judge and reports directly to the Program Director for supervision and performance evaluations.


Core Duties:

  • Complete the program's initial training for volunteer advocates and maintain ongoing training requirements.
  • Conduct interviews with the child, parents, relatives, and other relevant parties upon case assignment.
  • Establish monthly contact with each assigned child.
  • Review all pertinent case records.
  • Contribute to the development of initial case plans.
  • Engage with educational staff regarding the child's academic performance as needed.
  • Collaborate with service providers.
  • Attend Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM) whenever possible.
  • Monitor the implementation of court-ordered services and progress.
  • Report unmet needs or concerns to the DCS Family Case Manager.
  • Participate in regular case discussions with the Program Director.
  • Prepare and submit court reports for review prior to hearings.
  • Attend all court hearings related to assigned cases.
  • Maintain accurate and current case files in the CASA state database system.
  • Submit biweekly electronic timecards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director.
