Job Description

AHRC New York City is a leading provider of services for children and adults with developmental disabilities in New York City. Our mission is to advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.

We are seeking a Full-Time Employment Skills Support Professional for our Day Programs in All Five Boroughs. The pay rate for this position is $35,000 per year. In addition, this position comes with a very generous benefit package which includes:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with individuals with disabilities, enhancing their employability by instructing work behaviors and skills. The role will also involve driving vans to pick up and drop off individuals from home to job site and vice versa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support individuals with disabilities in leading self-directed lives
  • Enhance participant employability by instructing work behaviors and skills
  • Drive vans to pick up and drop off individuals from home to job site and vice versa
  • Use formal and informal methods to learn about the needs, interests, and desires of individuals
  • Collaborate with individuals and others to plan and implement supports that build upon individual strengths, choices, and capabilities
  • Develop and expand meaningful community opportunities
  • Work with the supervisor on developing and implementing an effective plan, and ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and agency values
  • Help build the self-esteem and assertiveness necessary to lead a self-determining life

Qualifications:

  • Personal and/or professional experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with program participants, families, staff, and community agencies
  • Reasonable flexibility in work hours and ability to respond to the scheduling needs of the individual
  • Knowledge of Home and Community Based Waiver, and the ability to keep up to date pertaining to such knowledge, and interpret same
  • Understanding of Person-Centered Planning
  • High School diploma or GED is required
  • NYS Driver's License required
