Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Support Specialist to join our team at YAI, a leading organization dedicated to providing innovative services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in community integration, person-centered services, and a passion for promoting the independence and well-being of individuals with I/DD.
The Support Specialist will work closely with individuals of all ages who require support with daily living skills, personal care, and socialization. This role involves providing direct care services, ensuring the health, safety, and wellness of the individuals we support, and building positive relationships with them and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care services, including counseling, training in ADLs, assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, and habilitative needs.
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the individuals we support.
- Support with intimate care functions.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with individuals and their families.
- Participate in the development of treatment plans.
- Crisis intervention and management.
- Complete mandatory trainings and apply skills.
- Meet and demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies.
- Assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities through teaching, self-advocacy, and emotional support.
- Facilitate community integration, recreational activities, and socialization.
- Complete documentation to ensure compliance and billing.
- Train and present to a team.
- Take on additional tasks outside of basic support work as needed.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Valid NY State Driver's License may be required depending on the position.
- Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.
