Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position typically falls between $41,600 and $44,000 annually, based on relevant experience and qualifications. Organizational Mission: Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) is dedicated to enhancing the health of New Yorkers by addressing hunger, supporting families affected by violence, and connecting individuals to essential healthcare services. CHASI offers outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services to populations disproportionately impacted by health disparities, including low-income individuals, those with chronic illnesses, and marginalized communities.

Role Summary: The Benefits Navigator plays a crucial role in assisting uninsured and low-income residents in accessing health insurance and SNAP (food stamps) benefits. This position will primarily operate from our designated location while also providing services at various outreach sites as needed. The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support:

  • Guide clients through the eligibility criteria and application procedures for SNAP and health insurance programs.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate clients' eligibility for various assistance programs.
  • Assist clients in accurately completing application forms.
  • Address client inquiries regarding benefits, eligibility, and application processes.

Eligibility Assessment:

  • Review client documentation to confirm eligibility for SNAP and health insurance.
  • Stay informed about changes in eligibility requirements and program regulations.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to ensure comprehensive service delivery.

Community Outreach and Education:

  • Implement outreach initiatives to promote awareness of SNAP and health insurance programs.
  • Organize educational workshops to inform individuals and families about available assistance programs.
  • Create informative materials to enhance understanding of program benefits and requirements.

Case Management:

  • Maintain detailed records of client interactions and application statuses.
  • Monitor application progress and provide updates to clients as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to resolve complex cases.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure adherence to program regulations and confidentiality standards.
  • Prepare reports on program activities and client outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Participate in ongoing training to improve knowledge of SNAP and health insurance programs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in health care navigation, benefits navigation, or case management.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Strong cultural competency and understanding of the target population.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Availability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.
