Job Overview:
The Patient Services Specialist II is an advanced role that requires a high level of expertise in patient services. This position is responsible for ensuring an exceptional patient experience by consistently delivering outstanding customer service and facilitating the clerical and medical operations of a healthcare team. The role involves managing patient registration processes and enhancing access to UTMB services for both new and returning patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and guide team members effectively.
  • Provide mentorship and support to peers.
  • Efficiently assess and prioritize issues.
  • Understand clinic operations to optimize patient flow.
  • Deliver exemplary customer service in all interactions.
  • Engage professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and referral sources.
  • Handle incoming calls with accuracy and superior service.
  • Document and triage calls to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Act as a patient advocate, collaborating with various departments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information across all communication channels.
  • Address patient concerns and implement service recovery strategies.
  • Schedule appointments in accordance with clinical policies.
  • Coordinate financial counseling for surgical procedures.
  • Conduct reminder calls for upcoming appointments.
  • Educate patients about billing processes and financial responsibilities.
  • Provide cost estimates for services to patients.
  • Assist patients with outstanding bills.
  • Facilitate follow-up appointments and referrals.
  • Prepare patient documentation for visits.
  • Process payments and manage financial transactions accurately.
  • Verify patient eligibility and pre-register patients during each encounter.
  • Collect necessary information for insurance reimbursement.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare and insurance policies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams regarding access and authorization issues.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Stay informed on relevant communications related to job responsibilities.
  • Complete annual competency training and assessments.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Adhere to departmental internal controls.
  • Secure confidential information and manage workstation security.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to departmental goals.

Salary Range:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional additional hours as needed.
