The Role

As we expand our operations, we are looking for a Field Engineer Education Specialist to become a vital part of our Technical Training team. The Field Engineer Education Specialist (FEES) will be tasked with providing technical and skills training for our Field Engineers, internal stakeholders, and Biomedical Engineers. This role will involve delivering training on highly regulated medical devices that necessitate field-based repairs, utilizing both instructor-led and virtual training methodologies. The FEES will cover essential topics such as device theory, troubleshooting, e-Connectivity, disassembly, adjustment, repair, maintenance, installation, servicing techniques, and proper documentation practices.

The Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality training on instrumentation to Field Service Engineers and customer biomedical engineers within a highly regulated framework, focusing on safe and effective troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of our products. Facilitate training for internal teams, including sales and technical support, as required.
  • Manage classroom inventories and supplies to ensure effective training program delivery in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Enhance training outcomes through coaching, conducting Train-the-Trainer programs, and engaging in follow-up activities with fellow trainers to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials for new and existing products, emphasizing the use of modern technologies for delivery.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and modification of training equipment, including technical audio and video tools for virtual training.
  • Engage in cross-functional teams and projects related to product development, service publications, training documentation, and continuous learning initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with sales and service management across various levels.
  • Participate in ride-along activities with Field Engineers to identify and promote best practices, and provide coaching or performance evaluations for new Field Engineers.
  • Perform additional work-related duties as assigned.
The Individual
Required:
  • Education: An Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent experience of at least 2 years.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex devices.
  • Experience in technical training.
  • Familiarity with innovative training delivery methods suitable for a global audience.
  • Proficient in delivering technical training programs using various educational modalities, including web-based and classroom settings.
  • Experience with video-based training delivery and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and well-organized.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and/or internationally.
Preferred:
  • Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining Ortho Clinical Diagnostics devices.
  • Instructor certification on Ortho Clinical Diagnostics devices.
The Key Working Relationships
  • Regular interaction with various departments within the company, including sales, customer service, technical service, product management, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. Establish key relationships with global Field Service and Technical Solutions Center teams, as well as other internal organizations requiring technical training.
The Work Environment

The characteristics of the work environment are typical of an office setting. The role requires mobility to set up and manage classroom environments, which may involve bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Travel up to 30% of the time may involve carrying training materials, navigating airports, and potentially driving to various locations. The ability to lift up to 30 lbs is necessary, and prolonged standing may be required.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position considers a variety of factors, including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and the candidate's abilities, along with internal equity and market alignment. At Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range for their role, as compensation decisions are based on the specific circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is competitive and includes eligibility for bonuses.
