POSITION SUMMARY

The primary function of this role is to efficiently gather waste and yard debris along a designated route.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collects refuse and yard waste from residential and commercial properties, ensuring thorough removal of all acceptable materials and properly positioning waste containers.
  • Adheres to safety protocols, employs protective gear, and assesses the work environment to guarantee the safety of personnel and the public.
  • Handles miscellaneous collection requests and disposes of materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Addresses customer inquiries and concerns related to waste collection, escalating issues to the supervisor as necessary.
  • Operates refuse collection vehicles and utilizes tools such as shovels, pitchforks, yard rakes, and brooms to perform essential tasks.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the collection vehicle, ensuring it is sanitary and free of debris.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public to coordinate activities, review progress, and resolve issues.
  • Completes necessary documentation, including timecards and service records.
  • Acts as a substitute driver when regular drivers are unavailable, ensuring continuity of service.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma is required, along with six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for this position.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions for waste collection.
  • Capability to compile and record data according to established procedures.

  • Ability to utilize various reference materials and information.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, including addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions with some degree of independent judgment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and creativity in routine tasks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position involves heavy physical activity, requiring the ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects (up to 100 pounds), as well as perform tasks that may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted in various outdoor conditions, with potential exposure to dust, odors, inclement weather, and other environmental factors.
