POSITION SUMMARY
The primary objective of this role is to efficiently gather waste and yard debris along a designated route.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects refuse and yard waste from residential and commercial properties, ensuring thorough removal of all acceptable materials and returning bins to their proper locations.
- Adheres to safety protocols, utilizes protective gear, and monitors the work environment to maintain the safety of all personnel and the public.
- Handles miscellaneous items at designated locations and disposes of them in accordance with regulations.
- Addresses customer inquiries and concerns regarding refuse collection issues, escalating matters to the supervisor as necessary.
- Operates the compactor on the refuse vehicle and employs various tools such as shovels, pitchforks, yard rakes, and brooms to fulfill essential duties.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the refuse vehicle on a daily basis, ensuring a sanitary working environment by removing debris from the interior and washing the exterior.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and the public to coordinate activities, review progress, share information, or resolve issues; responds to service requests as needed.
- Completes timecards and other necessary documentation.
- Acts as a substitute driver, managing routes when the primary driver is unavailable.
- Performs additional related tasks as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma is required, along with six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

- Ability to retain and follow specific instructions for waste collection.
- Capability to compile, assemble, and transcribe data according to established guidelines.

- Proficiency in operating equipment and tools necessary for job functions.
- Adeptness in utilizing various reference materials and information.
- Basic arithmetic skills, including addition and subtraction.
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions, involving standardized work with some discretion for independent judgment.
- Capacity to exercise judgment and creativity in handling a variety of predefined tasks, often subject to frequent changes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position involves heavy physical work, requiring the ability to exert moderate effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The role necessitates lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects (up to 100 pounds). Tasks may also require the ability to perceive colors, sounds, odors, depth, texture, and visual signals, as well as effective oral communication.
