Fleet Operations Supervisor

Department: Fleet Management

Reports to: Director of Operations

Status: Exempt

1. Job Purpose/Objective:

Starting salary at $100,000

This role is pivotal in guaranteeing that all company vehicles are kept in optimal working order, ensuring that the highest number of vehicles are accessible for daily operations to fulfill the demands of the Maui Bus, Tour, and School Bus sectors of Roberts Hawaii.

2. Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversee daily maintenance activities to ensure vehicles are serviced and repaired in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the tasks of subordinate personnel to ensure completion in alignment with organizational standards, policies, and contractual obligations.
  • Implement schedule and policy modifications as necessary.
  • Monitor operations to ensure adherence to administrative policies, safety regulations, and applicable governmental standards.
  • Encourage safe work practices by conducting safety evaluations, participating in mandatory safety training, and guiding staff on safe vehicle and equipment usage.
  • Responsible for training, coaching, and managing performance, including disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Develop, assess, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures to achieve operational goals.
  • Assign duties to team members and inspect performance to ensure compliance with all policies and safety standards.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to investigate, respond to, and resolve issues.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities such as approving invoices, requisitions, and purchase orders; reviewing payroll and budgetary items; and managing vendor contracts.
  • Utilize systems and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Review daily work orders to track tasks and accomplishments.
  • May require travel to assist with vehicle repairs and provide operational support as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
3. Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position):
  • At least 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance or a similar environment.
  • Must possess a minimum of five (5) ASE certifications.
  • Hawaii State Mechanic License required.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic equipment.
  • Able to perform calculations related to discounts, commissions, and measurements.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must hold a minimum Type 3 License and be eligible for CDL upgrade.
  • Operational knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment is essential.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Able to read and interpret business documents and technical procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions in different formats.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy fuels and green technologies is a plus.
  • A commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable experiences.
4. Working Conditions/Job Environment:
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Engaging in physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and convey detailed instructions.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for operating and repairing machinery.
  • Subject to physical hazards, including moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • Exposure to atmospheric conditions that may affect respiratory health.
