Position Overview

The Senior Administrator for the Department of Orthopaedics within Emory University's School of Medicine is responsible for leading, planning, and coordinating significant administrative and clinical functions. This includes overseeing clinical operations, managing grants and contracts, budget formulation, financial assessment, data processing, and human resources management for the Department of Orthopaedics and its associated divisions. This role entails direct supervision of Division Administrators and other essential leadership positions. The administrator will be accountable for the clinical, educational, and research missions of the department across various health system partners and affiliates, ensuring alignment with institutional objectives.

The Vice President of the Musculoskeletal Service Line at Emory Healthcare plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive leadership for service line operations, performance enhancement, capital management, and strategic planning throughout the healthcare system. By fostering collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services, the VP ensures a cohesive approach to care delivery that aligns with the clinical, research, and educational goals of Emory Healthcare.

This position integrates clinical and business functions to support the core operations of the service line, promoting a seamless blend of clinical expertise and business strategies. The VP engages with administrative and operational leaders to standardize practices, develop competency-enhancing programs, optimize workforce utilization, and achieve performance benchmarks. The role includes establishing standards and administering organizational policies within the administrative framework.

The VP serves as a subject matter expert and internal consultant to service line and operational unit leadership on administrative functions. This position emphasizes operational excellence and the effective use of process improvement tools to achieve strategic initiatives. The VP leads efforts to enhance operational efficiency, ensuring high-quality patient care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate major administrative and clinical activities, including budget planning, financial analysis, and human resources management for multiple departments or large divisions.
  • Hold responsibility for specific service lines, health system affiliations, and academic oversight, including overall budget management.
  • Administer organizational policies and procedures, with decision-making authority on complex situations in collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.
  • Create strategies to enhance clinical revenue while managing expenses effectively.
  • Establish and monitor departmental goals and objectives, ensuring progress towards their achievement.
  • Develop and implement clinical and administrative programs to enhance staff skills and improve service effectiveness.
  • Act as a liaison between management and other departments regarding clinical activities and issues.
  • Implement formal training and development programs for administrative and support staff.
  • Fulfill related responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in business, finance, or a related field, accompanied by 10 years of professional experience in business or management, ideally within a clinical or healthcare setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a department administrator role within a major academic medical center or a large orthopaedic practice.
