Position Overview

The Senior Administrator for the Department of Orthopaedics within Emory University's School of Medicine is responsible for leading, organizing, and overseeing significant administrative and clinical functions. This includes managing clinical operations, grants and contracts, budget development, financial analysis, data processing, and human resources management for the Department of Orthopaedics and its associated divisions. This role involves direct supervision of Division Administrators and other essential leadership positions.

This position entails accountability for the clinical, educational, and research objectives of the department across various health system partners and affiliates, including comprehensive budget and human resource management. The Senior Administrator will mentor and develop leaders to ensure outstanding performance and career progression. This role also involves administering organizational policies and procedures within the department, with decision-making authority on complex situations in collaboration with the Department Chair and institutional leadership.

In addition, the Vice President of Emory Healthcare's Musculoskeletal Service Line plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive leadership for service line operations, performance improvement, capital management, and strategic planning across the healthcare system. By fostering collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services, the VP ensures a cohesive approach to delivering care that aligns with the clinical, research, and educational goals of Emory Healthcare.

The VP is responsible for aligning clinical and business functions to support the core operations of the service line, promoting the integration of clinical expertise with business strategies. This includes engaging with administrative and operations leaders to standardize practices, develop competency-enhancing programs, optimize workforce utilization, and achieve benchmark objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate major administrative and clinical functions, including budget planning, financial analysis, and human resources management for multiple departments or large divisions.
  • Oversee specific service lines, ensuring overall budget accountability.
  • Administer organizational policies and procedures, holding final decision-making authority on complex issues.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and monitor capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.
  • Formulate plans to enhance clinical revenue while managing expenses effectively.
  • Establish and monitor departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement clinical and administrative programs to enhance employee skills and improve service effectiveness.
  • Act as a liaison between management and other departments regarding clinical activities.
  • Implement formal training and development programs for staff.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business, finance, or a related field, with 10 years of professional experience in management, preferably in a clinical or healthcare setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a department administrator role within a major academic medical center or a large orthopaedic practice.
