The Engineering Science Division at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is in search of a Senior Engineer 1 to enhance our Aircraft Operating Surfaces (AOS) initiatives.

In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert in various domains including structures, pavements, maintenance, materials, and geotechnical engineering. Your responsibilities will encompass the application of diverse analytical, scientific, and engineering methodologies to conduct research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) as well as technical projects, which include:

  • Conducting applied bench-level research
  • Driving advanced technology development
  • Designing, constructing, and evaluating prototype/pilot scale systems in relevant operational environments
  • Testing and evaluating materials, technologies, and processes within Air Force operations
  • Enhancing operations & maintenance (O&M) capabilities through the integration of alternative pavements, materials, technologies, processes, and procedures
To successfully address these projects, you will need to possess a strong technical foundation in experimental and test design, laboratory and field analysis, quality control, scaling up and prototype design and operation, system/process evaluation, technology transition, technical writing, and the use and maintenance of scientific and engineering equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.

Requirements for Senior Engineer 1:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 6-8 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Experience in an engineering research setting with a focus on pavement materials, testing, and construction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pavement analysis and design, testing, material QC/QA, mix design, specifications, and construction processes is essential, whether acquired through coursework or practical experience.
  • Proficient in preparing formal reports and presentations.
  • Exceptional analytical and computational skills.
  • Strong abilities in interpretation, writing, communication, and presentation.
