Position Summary:

We are seeking a full-time Lead Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Engineering Science Division (ESD). This role involves collaborating with the US Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) to spearhead innovative research and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and contribute to pioneering research projects, including the assessment of diesel engine locomotives as potential electricity generation sources for emergency backup systems.
  • Design and implement electrical distribution frameworks that integrate with existing power grids.
  • Conduct energy audits for Department of Defense (DoD) facilities utilizing detailed interval data.
  • Employ commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies to analyze utility meter data, weather conditions, and property specifics to formulate energy conservation strategies.
  • Evaluate energy and cost-saving opportunities through comprehensive analysis.
  • Create distribution system models for DoD installations using advanced power systems modeling software, ensuring data standardization.
  • Support the evaluation of microgrid designs proposed by commercial entities, reviewing technical diagrams and assessing feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop applications that process utility data for integration into Army meter data management systems.
  • Provide electrical circuit design expertise and safety guidance during prototype development and fabrication.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6-8 years of experience in a technical setting. Proficiency in engineering CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and the Microsoft Office Suite is essential. The ability to travel to various military installations is required.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in electrical system conceptual design and component specification.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple project stakeholders and facilitate virtual meetings.
  • Knowledge of power grid layout and assessment for diverse building types.
  • Experience in utility coordination and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with power modeling software and financial analysis related to electricity.
  • Capability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.
