Position Overview:

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is in search of a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer specializing in the physics of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) to enhance the US Navy's efforts in modeling, simulation, and testing. We are looking for a candidate with extensive knowledge of UUV systems, including both remotely operated and autonomous vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct modeling and simulation tasks, encompassing analysis, simulation development, and verification or validation processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related discipline, coupled with 8-10 years of experience in UUV physics.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the capability to secure a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Proven experience in physics-based engineering modeling and simulation.
  • Expertise in implementing third-party UUV physics models and simulations based on theoretical frameworks and empirical data.
  • Experience in developing and executing real-time, high-fidelity physics models for UUV applications.
  • Proficiency in verifying and validating UUV physics models against empirical test data.
  • Ability to model underwater environments and assess factors influencing UUV operations and simulations.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, proposals, formal presentations, and data interpretation.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and programming languages such as Python, C++, and Fortran.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently or collaboratively within diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with U.S. Navy UUVs or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with the Naval Autonomy Test System (NATS), NATS Integrated Management System (NIMS), and/or Virtual Maritime Autonomy Test Environment (VMATE).
  • Experience in developing or utilizing Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) applications.
  • Experience in creating and testing digital twin environments.
  • Background in surveying underwater environments and gathering relevant data for testing purposes.
  • Possession of an active DoD Secret security clearance.
